Vinland is a duchy founded by Skelliger explorers in the North East. Its name means "pasture land". The duchy is traditionally a diarchy: there are always two dukes elected among the bravest or most intelligent men.
History[]
The eldest human inhabitants of these lands were Skrælings. They were simple farmers and shepherds, but formidable warriors.
Vinlandi commoner with mixed origins
After the Skelliger expedition arrived here through Kaedweni rivers and forests, first contacts were hostile, but the conflict ended after both groups managed to know each other's language which allowed the jarl's daughter to marry the local chieftain.
Some time later, a group of nobles who would not agree with the creation of the duchy and its system of two rulers would be exiled and these, together with their followers, would march from Vinland to found a new country, Sweland.
11th century[]
When an unknown witcher, some speculate from the School of the Wolf, others from the School of the Owl, would travel to the city of Thoduras where he would take care of a supposed monster in the mines, which in reality would be a supposed witchcraft problem.
The story has several endings, and is practically folklore, but the most accepted version says that the mayor of the city committed abuses against the supposed witch and the witcher ended up confronting him and his men. Adalwulf of Aedirn's studies of the story speculate that it could be a young Oleck of Ban Gleán or Medas, one of the Owls for which there are fewer records, but what is described fits how it was. This story shows, that certainly the anti-magic sentiment was already long before present in the duchy.
Political Conflicts[]
In the late 1270s the duchy would become caught up in the conflict between various regional powers, notably between the currently ruling dukes Lestec and Falmak. During this period the witcher Ryvlyn of Sanzode travelled through the duchy with his companions. One of them, the mage Cedda, would save the life of Duke Falmak.
In gratitude, the duke would pay the group to find a lost child, and after a lengthy search, the crew would find a young Sioni, revealed to be the bastard daughter of the Falmak. Lyn himself would become friends with Falmak, preventing a coup by the duke's other rival Vagvul (son of Lestec). In the years ahead Lyn would take on the position of trainer for Sioni, who would go on to become a famous Lady Knight.
Famine of 1272 and the Vinkald Trials[]

During this year, due to excessive hunting of mammoths. The kingdom was plagued by white dragons of the area, who replaced their prey, which was scarce. They decided to attack human settlements. It was just at this time of crisis that Fabio Sachs' expedition reached the duchy. And the presence of a witcher in this, served to end the plague that plagued the duchy.
The witcher was Putnam Pitch who took care of the problem, so that the expedition could continue. Since the presence of white dragons in the area, complicated the route that the expedition wanted to make. Due to the work of the witcher and the influence of the expedition. As representatives of Kovir, they got an important trade treaty between both countries, which would benefit Kovir from all the unique products of the Far North territories.

Vinland is located to the east of the Great Lake ( Know as Anloch ) bordered by mountains in the north and mountains in the east. Climate here is cold, but allows vegetation and agriculture.
