A sea serpent or sea dragon is a gargantuan marine draconid that is sometimes confused with the hrokkall or the super eel due to its appearance. They are part of the draconid classification, more specifically, the family of False Draconids, also known as Lesser Draconids. Sea serpents are abundant in the area of the Great Sea known as the Mad Sea, particularly after the Second Conjunction of Spheres. Witchers from the School of the Crane specialize in effectively hunting and killing these monsters.

Physiology[]

These creatures boast elongated bodies, often reaching lengths of fifty feet, with sleek, serpentine forms ideal for navigating the vast depths of the ocean. Physically, they resemble eels, featuring pikes along their bodies for protection. Their skin, ranging in iridescent hues from deep blues to shimmering greens, provide both camouflage and protection against predators.

One of the most striking features of sea serpents is their jaws, lined with rows of razor-sharp teeth capable of rending flesh and crushing bone with ease. These teeth are not only used for hunting prey but also serve as potent weapons in defending against potential threats.

Sea serpents are equipped with powerful tails that propel them through the water with astonishing speed and agility. They are formidable hunters capable of overtaking swift prey with remarkable precision.

Their respiratory system is adapted for underwater life, with gills along the sides of their necks allowing them to extract oxygen from the water. This adaptation enables them to remain submerged for extended periods, surfacing only when necessary.

Abilities[]

  • Bioluminescence: Some sea serpents are known for their ability to emit bioluminescent light, a feature concentrated on specific parts of their bodies. This adaptation serves multiple purposes, including luring prey in the darkness of the deep sea and confusing potential threats.
  • Venomous Bite: Some sea serpents possess venom glands within their jaws, delivering a potent toxin through their bites. This venom not only incapacitates prey but can also serve as a formidable defense mechanism against larger adversaries such as their natural predator, the Black Demon.
  • Echolocation: Sea serpents have developed a sophisticated form of echolocation, using it to navigate in the dark depths and locate prey with pinpoint accuracy. This sensory ability aids them in hunting even in conditions where visibility is severely limited.

Behaviors[]

Sea serpents are known to be territorial creatures, fiercely defending their established hunting grounds and nesting sites. Encounters between rival sea serpents can escalate into intense battles, with the victor claiming the territory and its associated resources. This solitary nature allows them to efficiently pursue prey without competition from other individuals.

During the breeding season, sea serpents engage in elaborate mating rituals to attract potential mates. These rituals often involve intricate displays of agility, strength, and dominance, with males competing for the attention of females. After mating, female sea serpents carefully select a suitable nesting site to lay their eggs, usually in secluded underwater caves or crevices.

Once hatched, the young sea serpents receive minimal parental care, quickly venturing out into the ocean to fend for themselves.
