Green Hags also called Verdent Hags, or Swamp Hags are said to be the most common of the known Hag variant species.

Origin[]

The overall collective of species known as Hags is a curious crossover point between Fey and Necrophage classifications. Originally far more benign, starting out as a population of nymphs, the Hags were changed by residual energy of the Cosmic Horrors, mutating their evolutionary path into the wicked and cruel beings known as Hags, this corruption is also the reason for them gaining a more Necrophagic diet.

Water Hags are actually a sub-species of this variant of Hag that took on a more bluish hue as they adapted to different environments than their swamp-dwelling cousins.

Physiology[]

In their undisguised form[]

Starting from the top down, Green Hags have hair that has been dyed dark green and sometimes almost black from time in fetid waters. Their eyes range in hues between reds, oranges, and yellows. Their teeth are sharp and dull yellow from their time in (usually dirty) water. The body of a Green Hag which is roughly the same height as a human female when upright, is covered in a rough green skin, from which they received their species name. The fingernails of a Green Hag like their scum-dyed hair are usually either black or yellow.

Disguise form[]

The more powerful Green Hags are capable of limited polymorphy, as such they will take the form of human women when they feel like it or if they choose to reproduce, like their nymph cousins, they are capable of reproducing with humans as such they may mate with a human male and build themselves a group which has been dubbed a Coven by scholars of the creature.

Lifecycle[]

Child[]

Young hags are exceptionally small generally about the size of a child, maybe a teenager at largest this life stage lasts 20 years during which the Hagling lives with her mother in a shared territory.

Adult[]

The life stage after childhood lasts between the 20 to 50-year mark generally the Hag is human-sized, they are banished from their mother's territory and set out to claim a territory of their own.

Abilities[]

Physical[]

  • Amphibious: Green Hags can breathe air and comfortably respire in the water and their ability to move silently in the water made them deadly predators of humans.
  • Claw Retraction: Green Hags possess sharp claws/talons
  • Darkvision: Green Hags can see in the dark within a specific radius. They can see in dim light within the radius as if it were bright light, and in total darkness as if it were dim light. Though they can’t discern color in the darkness, only shades of gray.
  • Fang Retraction: Green Hags possess sharp teeth.
    • Powerful Bite: Green Hags have an incredibly strong bite force compared to a human.

Magical[]

Corrupting influence[]

Being in contact with a disguised Green Hag has a corrupting influence on humans making them more greedy and wicked, a Green Hag as she grows older (late adult and older) will instinctually make her way disguised to a nearby village or town offering advice and wise counsel. Through these good works, she will work her way into the inner circle of the place's council helping to make the village or town prosperous to draw more potential prey to the area. Eventually though she will bring the once well-meaning officials to greed and madness, all the while cackling at the turmoil from the safety of her swamp lair.

Entrapment[]

Green Hags use their magical powers to lure innocents into their traps. They will assume the form of peasant women and enter a populated area to find a young man or woman to corrupt with vices.

Limited Polymorphy[]

Like their relatives the Annis Hag, a Green Hag can disguise herself using limited polymorphy, they rarely disguise themselves as beautiful women instead choosing more plain human female forms.

Voice Mimicry[]

Green hags can mimic animal sounds or humanoid voices if they wished to but can not mimic artificial sounds like machines.
