Biography[]

Adalwulf of Aedirn ( Real name: Adalwulf Ulvenson), The Blue Clad Demon by the Haaklandians, Sir Adalwulf of Aedirn by the Toussaintoi, The Witcher with the Aedirnian Accent by Nordlings, The Wolven Knight, and later The Vulpine Knight by the Toussaintoi, Adalwulf The Mula Slayer and The Blue Wolf by the witchers of Kaer Morhen, or simply Adalwulf was a well-known witcher of the Continent especially the Northern Kingdoms and later of the Duchy of Vicovaro, he was a known School of the Wolf Master Witcher and later Grandmaster of the School of the Fox.

He was an active Witcher before and following the Second Conjunction of Spheres. He would survive many events that would decimated the School of the Wolf's numbers and was among the oldest known still living Witchers from the school, though he is still younger than Vesemir. At the time of the Wolf School's closing, his surviving brothers Geralt, Eskel and Lambert assumed he had died.

In the latter part of the 13th century, Adalwulf was knighted in the lands of Aedirn thus has land in the region that provides him shelter and a bit of income. And in the 14th century became the Grandmaster of the School of the Fox bringing many changes both to the School and to the Witcher world itself.

He would die just before the start of the 17th century at the age of six hundred and sixty-nine years old making him the longest lived witcher in known history.

History[]

Early life (1121-1131)[]

Born to a seemingly normal peasant Aedirnian couple named Ralluald Ulvenson and Ugga in the village of Hoarton, he was one of three children out of seven which turned out to be Sources, Adalwulf himself, his twin sister Eishe and their younger sister Arrah, his sisters. Born as the fifth child just after his older twin Eishe by a minute, six days after the start of the Imbolc Savaed and the holiday of Imbaelk. Adalwulf was the second born son of the peasant Ralluald Ulvenson, he was given a lucky token which he wore on his neck from his parents in hopes that he would grow up strong and brave. For the most part Adalwulf's childhood was fairly normal until at the age of 4 when his father became cursed by a mage and suffered a major psychosis. Ralluald became violent, irrational and depressive.

In desperation, Ralluald privately promised his eldest son Daskel to a Witcher of the School of the Wolf in exchange for a cure from the curse.
A young 6 year old Adalwulf would help out an Aedirnian soldier who taught him how to brawl with his fists.
The Witcher would instead later choose the younger Adalwulf saying he felt a tug of destiny from the boy. So desperate was Ralluald that he agreed without even telling his wife or the rest of his family.

Treatment was given in the form of rituals similar to the rituals to stave off a Striga curse and Ralluald was told to follow the ritual exactly and to never forget to do it every few days. Adalwulf and his sister Eishe were favorites of the local witch who they would do light chores for, they were given black magic dolls and told that they would help keep them safe. Four years later, the Witcher came to take Adalwulf to Kaer Morhen, Ugga of course was against this, Ralluald having not told her anything until the Witcher came for their son, and Eishe in particular was very distraught at her brother being taken away but Adalwulf took the witcher's hand and was calmly led away to his new life.

The beginning of his training in Kaer Morhen (1131)[]

Upon his arrival to the keep he was put with the other Witcher novices at the time, Adalwulf was allowed to keep certain items of his past like his doll and lucky token as they were viewed as negligible towards interference with his training. Like most potential Witcher apprentice groups, Adalwulf was placed with a large group of other boys which were viewed and trained as a unit.

Before undergoing his mutations, Adalwulf and the other trainees were under the care of the instructor Varin at the bastion for a year preparing their bodies for the changes to come, Varin's training was ruthless on the boys especially the youngest of the group Razan. Between lessons to improve their stamina and breathing techniques, Varin had the boys run the 'Witchers Trail' also known as 'The Killer'. Adalwulf paced himself with Razan, making sure the younger trainee didn't get hurt though this earned him the disdain of a lot of the other trainees who thought him trying to slack off in his training. Adalwulf also befriended Abbas who was made fun of by the other boys for his taupe colored skin as well as his strange foreign language and accent. The boys were drilled in fencing with meteorite steel swords, horse-riding, martial techniques and monster lore. Varin had no favorites only viewing the boys as dull knives needing to be sharpened into something useful.

Adalwulf has a Source flare-up (1131)[]

Give it back! Give it BACCCKKKKK!!!!!!
―Adalwufl unintentionally having a Source flair up

Due to Adalwulf's interference in the hazing of both the youngest and easiest targets of their training group, two of the oldest boys Aleid and Diederik decided to try to teach Adalwulf a lesson. They boys went through Adalwulf's personal possessions and took a doll, he had received as a child from local witch that had secretly been keeping Adalwulf's unidentified Source powers repressed. Adalwulf got mad at the other boys resulting in a large flare-up of latent magical power which injured the boys and threatened the structural integrity of the keep, if not for the efforts of the resident mages Dagobert Sulla, Reidrich, and resident priest/witcher Jarrow, the keep might have collapsed, following the incident Adalwulf was placed under observation by the resident mages.

Adalwulf's Trials[]

Adalwulf's First Year & The Choice (1131)[]

If you ever need us Razan. Me and Abbas, we'll be there for you! We promise!
―Adalwulf to Razan and Abbas before Razan is taken to the School of the Bear

Adalwulf was started on mutations quite early in his training, less then a year after his arrival while he was still 10, instead of after his first year of training, this choice was made due to his 'advanced age'. Adalwulf was first subjected to the Choice, eating special herbs and mushrooms alongside his training while it had been somewhat harder because of his 'advanced age', his reaction to the experience was noted as being within the norm of expectations by his handlers. During this time Razan was transferred to the care of the School of the Bear witchers as part of a attempt to bring closure to the problems between the Schools of the Wolf and Bear.

Trial of the Grasses (1131)[]

EinaradministeredtotheTrialofthegrasses
After the process of The Choice, had run its course, the remaining boys were given special teas before the trial began then they were exposed to a mixture of mutagens, virus cultures, and herbs intravenously, the pain was intense, bouts of madness and seizures wracked their bodies and minds in turns. One of the trainees a boy named Bartel died of heart failure after he was served a tea made using Witchgrass.

The potions of the Mother's Tears, Wildrye Juice and Speargrass Sap were used during the process. Another boy by the name of Aleid died of cerebral hemorraging after he was administered the Speargrass Sap potion.

Adalwulf's 'advanced age' actually helped Adalwulf at this time as his many memories of his childhood were the only thing he could cling to during the experience that bolstered him during the seven days in which he took the Trial of the Grasses. In the end Adalwulf was marked as having passed The Trial of the Grasses without any major problems other than losing his memories as a product of the trial. A few of the other boys were not as lucky. Though they survived both trainees Diederik and Jaap later died of complications from the trial multiple organ failure and extensive brain damage respectfully. Trainee Koenrad like Adalwulf survived and the two boys spent the next month healing before resuming their training.

Consequences of a mage's experiments (1131)[]

Between the Trial of the Grasses and the Trial of the Dreams, Adalwulf was kidnapped by the school resident mage Anfrert Of Lod and had experiments run on him. Like Jerome Moreau, Adalwulf was subjected to experiments which only made him more of a Witcher than he already was, not a super-witcher, but they improved him more than he already was instead of making him human, as the Anfrert had intended. Instead, the mutations bonded to his Source blood boosting his abilities in moments of high stress. He was rescued by Vesemir and other veteran Witchers of the School of the Wolf, Anfrert of Lod was expelled from the school after having his memories purged and Adalwulf was put back into the training program.

Trial of the Dreams (1131)[]

His eyes... Most unusual... Have them keep an eye on him.
―School Mage in charge of the Trial of the Dreams

After his rescue, he underwent the Trial of the Dreams to mutate his eyes. He showed no issues during the procedure. The mages induced psychedelic visions in the boy and recorded his ramblings, finding them to be within the norms except for a few parts. Though when he got his cat's eyes, they developed the same previous color, Silvery-grey central heterochromia but more vivid. but not the characteristic amber color of most witchers which made him stick out among his fellow trainees as being more easily able to blend in with humans.

Trial of the Pendulum (1132)[]

One more time! I'll get it. Just give me one more go!
―Adalwulf after falling off the Pendelum the fourth time that day.

The next trial after the Trial of the Dreams. Rescued from the School of the Cat by Adon of Carreras when he visited that school and refined. The trial helps to further improve reflexes, speed, footwork, balance, precision, and swordplay by training on the pendulum, a vertical hanging log with spikes along its bottom that would swing to the side, Adalwulf eventually learned to move along evenly spaced out poles as he weaved between the log and struck it at the same time.

Adalwulf studies in the library (1132-1135)[]

For the next three years Adalwulf supplemented his physical training by studying the school's bestiary books and taking alchemy classes by the school's resident mages. He would help the servants during the winter serving drinks to the veteran Witchers who would talk about their hunts over the season. He quickly grew to know who knew what they were talking about and who was all bluster.

Trial of the Forest Eyes (1135)[]

Took you long enough, I've been waiting for ages, master!
―Adalwulf to his trainer, Vesemir

Adalwulf whose oddly colored eyes and strange inclination for magic outbursts made him a bit of an oddity among the trainees was slated for additional testing as to his status. As was necessary for the Trial of the Forest Eyes, Adalwulf was taken out into the woods blindfolded and tied up. He was told that he had until the next morning to return to the keep without taking off his blindfold which had a wax seal fortified by magic, and if he were late, he failed the trial. He was also warned if he were caught cheating, his trainer Vesemir would hang him by his feet for a while. Coming to terms with his new enhanced senses, minus of course his sight, Adalwulf slowly but surely made his way back to the keep avoiding the monsters that would come out at night in the valley of Hertch. He greeted Vesemir the next morning at the keep still blindfolded with the seal intact, thus successfully passing the Trial and resuming his training.

Training at the temple of Melitele (1135-1137)[]

Adalwulf young

Adalwulf during his later years of witcher training (15-18 years old)

Sorry about the statue.... and the trees Mother Laurien.
―Adalwulf apologizing to the head priestess

Adalwulf and the other trainees of 'his generation' were sent to the Temple of Melitele in Ellander to learn how to cast signs under the head priestess at the time Mother Laurien. It wasn't long into the training that Laurien discovered that Adalwulf's signs conducted far more force then they should have (i.e. instead of moving a large statue a few feet it was flung into a forest snapping a few trees before making a hole in the ground), a limiting measure was put into place to prevent accidents, Adalwulf was given a dimeritium earring and was told to wear it at all times to help him focus. Over his two year tenure, Adalwulf was taught the signs of Aard, Igni, Quen, Yrden and Axii as was standard practice for his school. He also helped in the background at the temple studying curing curses and hexes under Mother Laurien.

Training in three man teams (1137-1141)[]

Abbas... Jacques... Circle round 'em! I'll draw his attention to the front!
―Adalwulf directing his teammates while fighting against a juvenile Endrega Worker

For the next four years the surviving Witcher apprentices were paired and worked together in three man teams to foster friendship, camaraderie and the ability to cooperate if needed. Adalwulf was paired with Abbas and Jacques. During this time the veteran Witchers would go out and capture monsters for the apprentices to practice on. This was also the boys first experience using a silver sword. The team of Zistefor-Zoras-Castran suffered a loss when Zoras died when the trio was fighting a ghoul.

Trial of the Mountains and the Circle of Elements (1141)[]

Old Speartip's a deep sleeper, wake him up and you'll sleep deeper.
―Vesemir to recruits

Adalwulf was subjected to the Trial of the Mountains to see how much of his training he took to heart. Adalwulf was again teamed up with Abbas and Jacques, the boys swam across a pond near Kaer Morhen, comin to a cave inhabited by an old cyclops called Old Speartip, remembering the rhyme Vesemir would teach them "Old Speartip is one deep sleeper, wake him up and you'll sleep deeper" the boys were left with the decision to try to defeat Old Speartip with their lent silver swords or to sneak past him, they chose the later and successfully snuck through the caverns without waking him up. The boys then climbed Troll's Head, dealing with its mistrustful rock trolls who threw boulders at the Witcher trainees Adalwulf was able to get close to one and cast Axii on him, calming the Troll enough to convince him to temporarily call off his friends long enough for the boys to reach the Circle of Elements at the peak. After the boys activated their medallions at the Circle their Trial was complete, the Trolls seeing they had done no harm to them let them pass down the mountain. After this was over Vesemir explained that all this was done in groups, as mentors believed that even though Witchers were lone hunters they could still benefit from cooperation. He was also impressed that this group didn't have to use their silver swords.

Graduation (March, 1141)[]

Adalwulf graduated with full honors and was given a silver sword of his very own from the Armory. Thus he officially became a recognized Witcher of the School of the Wolf. And in that same month, he would leave the school along with his other fellow graduates to start his first year in The Path.

Time as a simple witcher on the Path[]

Time as a caravan guard (1141-1144)[]

Not finding any noteworthy monster hunting work and being an unknown name at the time, Adalwulf signed up with the Northern Kingdoms Caravan Company, as a caravan guard and scout for a three-year contract, the president of the company Gemorlo of Sodden originally offered up a contract he wrote himself but Adalwulf got a weird feeling from him and decided to write up his own contract by hand, something which Gemorlo was clearly displeased with but signed anyway. Adalwulf removed nekkers from under bridges, cleared routes of ghouls and arachas nests. Just before the end of his contract Adalwulf found another contract. One talks about a mysterious monster found in Redania and thus he set off from Temeria.

First Hunt (Yule Savaed, (January 7th) 1144)[]

Let's give you a little true professional perspective, Philip. This here is a highly venomous draconid, not a dragon, I grant you. Its capable of killing dozens of armed men at once, and the 'standard going rate' for a witcher to contract one is 1,000 crowns or would you like to chance me telling these people that you knew that the Wyvern frequented that building, that you would charge refugees from the Elven-Human conflicts for a place to stay then loot their corpses after the Wyvern returned to its nest.
―Adalwulf whispered in the ear of a client trying to cheat him out of a proper bounty
Adalwulf took on a contract for a mysterious monster in Redania which had made its home in an abandoned building feeding on the vagrants inside until it had grown bold and attacked a merchant caravan. Turned out to be a particularly tough fight for a first contract. After some preliminary investigation Adalwulf was able to identify the monster as a wyvern, by its clawed footprints and examination of its victims. Adalwulf found a survivor named Achill who told the Witcher about the building's owner, a wealthy Redanian who served as the Representative for the Merchant's Guild by the name of Phillip Orseb telling war refugees about the building and offering to let them stay there for what little money they had on them. Adalwulf discovered his employer was the cause for the wyvern growing bold as the man knew about the wyvern but was unconcerned as long as it fed on the refugees from the Elven wars who occasionally inhabited the building, seeing it as a way to cull the unwanted refugee population after taking what little money they had then later collecting their remaining possessions. Adalwulf took some damage having been struck twice by the wyvern's tail barb but did some damage to the beast himself before it fled through a hole in the wall, Adalwulf tracked the beast to its nest he then waited until it tried to sleep off its wounds. He successfully crept up on it and finished it off by cutting off its head. Adalwulf rode back to his employer to turn in his claim, Adalwulf named his price for a thousand crowns which Phillip balked at, Adalwulf ended up using a mix of blackmail and intellect to reason the Representative into not only paying him but also to never commit such atrocities again. Phillip wrote Adalwulf a promissory note for Vivaldi's bank in Novigrad for 1,000 crowns and went back to his guild in good standing. Adalwulf ended up burying the two refugees that had died, and Achill the survivor who Adalwulf had paid for his medical treatment, thanked the witcher for burying his fellow refugees. Adalwulf had a brief and awkward conversation with Achill, who looked forward to hearing stories about the witcher Adalwulf of Aedirn to tell his children one day, with that the two men departed as friends. Adalwulf then left, headed out once more for The Path.

Adalwulf is sold a child for a witcher contract (1145)[]

Adalwulf took on a contract for an Aedirnian couple who promised their eldest daughter Yumeko (who was 6 at the time) for a witcher contract, the girl had also gotten on the bad side of a dwarven merchant so her parents needed her to leave, Adalwulf took on a contract to hunt an Ethereal that had taken to haunting the family home at night. It was a particularly tough fight since a mage was behind it all having been hired by the dwarven merchant to attack the family, particularly the girl. After the slaying, Adalwulf collected the girl and continued on his way intending to bring her back to Kaer Morhen come wintertime. Their journey brought them to the kingdom of Verden where Adalwulf took on a contract for the Verden royal family, the contract took a week for Adalwulf to complete during which Yumeko became very close with a boy who unfortunately turned out to be responsible for an Arachnomorph infestation so he was charged for his crime which saddened Yumeko, but her aid with the case ended with her getting an honorary knighting from the royal family of Verden. When Adalwulf returned to Kaer Morhen in winter, he enrolled Yumeko with the boys for the apprenticeship program. Despite the heavy odds against her, she completed the Trial of the Grasses with the aid of her memories from her former life.

Hunting Sirens (Feainn Savaed, (July 28th) 1159)[]

Adalwulf is contracted to hunt three nixas, in Kerack who had nested in a warehouse owned by the fish merchant Erles of Kerack, Adalwulf was paid in advance with tradeable goods. Adalwulf slayed the three sisters but spared the eggs, saving a sailor Hatos in the process, Adalwulf brought Hatos to his brother-in-law's Bert who happened to be a doctor. Adalwulf turned the Nixas' heads into to Erles but lied about the eggs claiming one of the Nixa was still pregnant, counting on the foreign physiology of the monsters to cover up his lie. After leaving Erles with a list, Adalwulf made his way to the coast, to a place of power where he found a Cecaelia, named Aris. Adalwulf gave the eggs to Aris to return to the Deep Folk, as he had tried to get the Nixa sisters to leave peacefully despite their clear feeding on humans because they were sentient. Adalwulf stated he believed the eggs to be innocent of their parent's crime. Aris used her magic to coat the eggs in a magic bubble and sunk beneath the waves, thanking Adalwulf for returning the children to the sea.

Time in Nilfgaard (1160)[]

Adalwulf takes a contract in Vicovaro, and is approached by a enchantress, Eishe of Vicovaro during his time there. At first she approaches as though the Witcher should know her, when Adalwulf tells her that he does not know her, because of losing his pre-trial memories, she attempts to flirt with him. He brushes off her advances. He completes his contract which turned out to be a Bruxa and heads back north.

Rumors reach Adalwulf of his friend Razan being imprisoned in Deireadh prison for the kidnapping and subsequent murder of a village child. Making his way to the village in question, despite a particularly unwelcome reaction to his presence Adalwulf manages to investigate the claim ending up tracking and killing the actual guilty party, a Cemetaur who had taken residence in the local graveyard and had kidnapped the child, killed them and buried them to let its meal putrefy. Adalwulf was able to recognize the body by their bracelet which their father had given the young girl, a detail Adalwulf had discovered in his investigation. Adalwulf returned the corpse of the little girl to her family and forced the father to come with him to the prison to see to Razan's release, despite the guards resistance they accepted the witcher's reasons when presented with the Cemetaur's head.

Fearing for the girl's safety, he sent her home, promising to visit her upon finishing his hunt. It was a tough fight befitting hunting a higher class vampire, but between his application of Vampire Oil on his silver sword and Adalwulf manifesting a foreign magical entity and his 'Piercing Cold' Aard for the first time, he was able to best the beast by flash freezing then decapitating the Mula, when presented with the trophy from the hunt, Adalwulf's mate Achill who had become Alderman tried to convince the villagers to raise the money to pay for a Mula but they refused to pay the proper price for a Mula, instead insisting they couldn't and wanting to pay the price drowner (approx. 10 crowns) or ghoul (approx. 30) in price much to Adalwulf's ire. While Aris was initially wary of the witcher, Adalwulf treated the girls as normal children letting them cling to him and sit on his lap (with the exception of being a bit careful of their nippy mouths). Over the course of the conversation, Adalwulf convinced the girls, he was not food but a friend and he ended up cooking a meal for the girls and their guardian. Due to his service during the Second battle of Aldersberg and his famed title 'of Aedirn'. Demavend III decided to knight Adalwulf as an honorary knight of the realm of Aedirn, he awarded the witcher a parcel of land in the kingdom, a mountainous area in eastern Aedirn mostly hidden because of its location. Thornwood Manor consisted of a single small keep, a separate manor house, farmland and forest and was staff with a decent pool of people to keep the place running as well as to run the small farm which grants the property for the most part self-sufficiency financially under the care of its Majordomo, Selim Edgar Sadler of Vengerberg. Adalwulf starts wearing a Aedirn nationality badge when roaming the kingdom, and has taken to the idea of going by his fully knighted title "Sir Adalwulf of Aedirn, wolves mirrored pale gris in full, per saltire gules, over a cross sable his crest" the next time he is in Toussaint, perhaps to participate in the Knights Tourney.

  • Adalwulf is tracked down by his sisters the sorceresses Eishe of Vicovaro and Arrah of Verden who had disguised themselves as travelers, using a bloodline tracker charm to find him. Eishe doesn't keep her connection to Adalwulf a secret this time and reintroduces him to Arrah.
  • The two mages join up with the Witcher's party for a few contracts until fearing for their safety in the magic-phobic Redania, Adalwulf sends them to his estate in the former lands of Aedirn, where they laid low until the end of the war being taken care of by the property staff who came to enjoy the sorceress' company, his sisters run the business operated at the keep and make a tidy profit while laying low.

Adalwulf runs into Eskel and learns about the death of Vesemir at the Battle of Kaer Morhen (1273)[]

"Ac felly bydd dyn yn meddwl eu bod wedi hindreulio'r gweiadur, ond nid ydynt wedi. Oherwydd y bydd croesi'r Sfferau yn dod, bydd angen y Vatt'ghern dro ar ôl tro, bydd cysylltiad sfferau yn dod, Vatt'gherns yw'r allwedd i gynnal cydbwysedd, adfer trefn ymhlith Anhrefn, I'r diniwed, yn ddynol neu'n anghenfil."

"And so man will think they have weathered the storm, but they haven't. Because The Conjunction of the Spheres will come, the Witcher will be needed again and again, the Conjunction of the Spheres will return, Witchers are the key to maintaining balance, restoring order among Chaos, To the innocent, both human or monster. "

―Adalwulf of Aedirn possessed by The Source

In the spring Adalwulf ran into fellow Wolf Witcher Eskel who was on his way to join up with the School of the Manticore in Zerrikania. Eskel told the older witcher about the Battle of Kaer Morhen, the death of Vesemir and the dissolution of the Witcher School. Adalwulf resolved to visit the keep with his sisters and his lover Aine to emotionally deal with the loss of his foster father Vesemir. Adalwulf found the spot they held the funeral and was so overcome with grief, in that moment that The Source made him enter a trance and gave him a vision. Adalwulf spoke in an otherworldly, metallic voice the voice of The Source speaking of a Second Conjunction of the Spheres and the others that would periodically follow after, how witchers would be all that truly stood between man and monster, that bridged the gap, that witchers would become the guardians of the balance and the eventual brokers of peace between sentient races across the Spiral. Adalwulf resolved right then and there to see the Witchers' Guild properly restored, he asked for his sisters' help over the winter they searched the valley gathering and copying what they could from the records of the School and the various other sites around the valley, fondly telling his sisters about his time among the Wolves and his time at Kaer Morhen.

Integration into then promotion to Grandmastership at the School of the Fox (1300)[]

In spring of the year 1300, Adalwulf, his twin sister Eishe of Vicovaro, their younger sister Arrah of Verden, Arrah's lover former Verdenian court mage Marvos of Verden and Adalwulf's lover the Ulfur-Dyrian bard Aine aep Avuffu made the journey to Vicovaro after receiving an invitation by other former wolf witchers and within a year of operating within the school Adalwulf of Aedirn was promoted as the new Grandmaster of the School of the Fox by the acting grandmaster Velcal, after he told the acting grandmaster of his vision as well as presenting new resources such as the three new powerful mages and their research to the school, as well as gathered research/notes from other schools.

Adalwulf proposes a training initiative with the other Witcher schools (1301)[]

Wanting to strengthen the bond between the Schools, Adalwulf started the Witcher Training Initiative sends Witchers to the School of the Bear and Griffin respectively asking for the exchange of mentors to strengthen the Schools' curriculum and produce stronger Witchers for the future. The messenger was received fairly well at the Eagle School of Kaer Seren, the Witcheress Birrexi of Poviss, as well as the Witchers Kemro of Cintra and Zivor of Redania were sent in positive response to the training initiative. However the messenger that went to the Bear School of Haern Caduch was not as warmly received, only through the backing of the Bear Witchers Razan of Cintra, and his subordinates Sustor of Redania and Jag Laittatrson did the message receive backing by the school who only sent the Master Witcher Cormac for the training initiative, though Razan, Sustor and Jag would make the trip to Burov Mylne at times to help as well. Cormac would decide to integrate officially into the school later that year.

Adalwulf sends a research team to Kaer Nytk (1302)[]

Hearing of an abandoned Witcher keep in Gemmera, Grandmaster Adalwulf and a few other Foxes, made their way to the abandoned Kaer Nytk. Not expecting to find much, they were surprised to find that the library for the School had been sealed, they broke the seal and took the surviving documents back down to Vicovaro and the safety of Burov Mylne, where Jalast saw to there restoration and preservation for future generations. One of the documents listed the mutagenic formula for the School's Trial of the Grasses and their unique mutagen that produced Witchers that were faster than others. Adalwulf did his best to locate any survivors of the school, whether he found any is unknown at this time.

Adalwulf creates the Witcher Reformation Act at Burov Mylne (1305)[]

After thinking over the different school that had become basically extinct and the Witchers left without home or companions, in honor of the School's founder Velcal's original goal, Fox School Grandmaster Adalwulf of Aedirn created and enacted the Witcher Reformation Act. He sent Witchers out into the far lands beyond Vicovaro, Nilfgaard even the Continent to bring their foreign brothers into solidarity. He also bartered with the Nilfgaardian Empire to have them collect any Witcher 'criminals' and give them the option of willing reformation into the school. This led to Witchers from many different schools which had failed in the past being integrated into the School of the Fox.
  • School of the Panther: With help from the Witchers of the School of the Lion, surviving Witchers from the extinct School of the Panther were offered a second chance through the reformation process offered by the School of the Fox, some integrated into the School of the Fox and some were allowed to rejoin the School of the Lion.
  • Two Witchers of the School of the Rhino: Berhanu and Zanock responded to the missive leaving behind the lands of the Far South for the Continent proper to mentor and train under Elite rank Elven Witcher Neicrubriel, who would refine their Witcherly arts and help them learn how to speak Common and Elder Speech.

Adalwulf along with Master witchers Cormac and Kemro of Cintra travelled to the Bear School keep of Caern Haduch in the Amell Mountains and the Griffin School keep of Kaer Seren in the lands of Kovir and Poviss to have the respective Grandmasters of the School of the Bear and the Griffin to sign the document themselves as well as to help the schools barter with their affiliated lands for the same deal of amnesty for witcher crimes in return for reformation. Due to the nomadic nature of the School of the Lynx it would take two years beyond the creation of the document to track down Grandmaster Lambert of the School of the Lynx to gain his support and signature.

Adalwulf of Aedirn makes moves to financially and legally secure Witchers' rights in the future. (1306)[]

Grandmaster Adalwulf of Aedirn invests a great deal of coin in the dwarven banks of Giancardi, Cianfanelli, and Vivaldi creating special protected accounts for Witchers that cannot be confiscated by officials for any reason, (Adalwulf heard of Geralt of Rivia's trouble in Kerack and did not want the same thing to happen ever again to a Witcher.) as well as putting law firms on retainer for witchers across the Continent (and later on the other landmasses) in the event of legal troubles. Money was also invested in other profitable pursuits, through a business man in Novigrad (who turned out to be a friend of Adalwulf's younger foster brother Geralt of Rivia) who after a bit of time getting to know the Witcher gave his true name as Tellico Lunngrevink Letorte, these businesses wielded good profits both local and across the sea, Adalwulf arranged for a small portion of dividends to be paid to the School of the Fox, while the rest of the profit was given to the businessman to improve and maintain the businesses, Adalwulf would regularly send witchers and sometimes himself to check on the businessman to make sure he was thriving and not being harassed. (See Dudu for the full story of the witcher and Doppler's interaction.)

Adalwulf travels to the School of the Lynx (1307)[]

Due to the nomadic nature of the School of the Lynx it would take two years beyond the creation of the document to track down Grandmaster Lambert of the School of the Lynx to gain his support and signature.

Adalwulf attends the Vicovaro magic school of Gweison Haul for a proper course in magic as well as funds orphanages across Vicovaro (1308-1328)[]

Adalwulf under the urging of his sister Eishe of Vicovaro, enrolls in Gweison Haul to learn to cast 'proper magic'. He was told that he would be attending the academy for twenty years, he received permission to use a Megascope to continue to lead his school from his room at Gweison Haul. During his time at the Academy he did not apprentice under another mage. He was placed alongside the much younger students where he clearly stuck out, much to the annoyance of his teachers and the Mage Hunters, the latter of whom were constantly breathing down Adalwulf's neck, due to Adalwulfs status and the political protection of his sister Eishe, neither of which were able to act too extreme against him. In one case, a scout posing as a young boy tried to turn Adalwulf in for asking a question about the utility use of magic for survival and monster hunting, the Mage Hunters took this as permission to use magic outside of use for the Empire, something other students were not allowed to even entertain the thought of, they attempted to take Adalwulf into custody for questioning. Adalwulf pointed out, he was a Witcher by trade and obviously he wasn't suggesting that others do as he did, was just looking for a way to make monster hunting easier as it aided the Empire if he improved his monster hunting skills, the Mage Hunters begrudgingly had to accept his reason as he was there under protection from the Vicovaro Court and to a degree the protection of the Nilfgaardian Empire.

Two years into his classes, Adalwulf decided to start funding orphanages throughout Vicovaro as a means of both improving the lives of the unfortunate and as a recruitment point for future witchers of the school.

Ten years into his classes, Adalwulf was charged by his teachers with exploring the school catacombs where he found a scroll detailing the Journeyman level earth spell, Bekker's Rockslide. For awhile, Adalwulf hid the scroll and learned its contents in secret, mastering the spell before turning it over to his teachers.

During his final year at Gweison Haul, Adalwulf was charged by his teachers with exploring the school catacombs where he found a scroll detailing the Journeyman level water spell, Anialwch. For awhile, Adalwulf hid the scroll and learned its contents in secret, mastering the spell before turning it over to his teachers.

Adalwulf mastered the following spells during his time at Gweison Haul:

  • Magic Compass, a Aether spell to instantly determine the direction of a place that Adalwulf had been before, as well as telling which direction is north. Adalwulf used this spell later on his journey north to participate in the driving off the Haak Invasion.
  • Luthien's Quill, a earth spell that can etch writings or drawings on any non-living surfaces. Adalwulf used this spell to inscribe glyphs, runes and words of power all throughout Burov Mylne along with Eishe and Arrah, strengthening and reinforcing the keep against magical and mundane assaults.
  • Freshen Air, a air spell used to clean the air of smoke, poison and/or other tainted air. Adalwulf placed the formula for this spell throughout the vents of Burov Mylne allowing for fresh air to circulate through the keep, this also had a beneficial effect of keeping the fumes from the laboratories from escaping.
  • Aine Verseos, a fire spell that produces a bright light around the caster, it was effective against certain vampires as well as an emergency light source.
  • Puro Dwr, a water spell he etched the formula for secretly in the water supply at Burov Mylne using Luthien's Quill to ensure that the Keep had a fresh and purified supply of water free of poison and contaminants. He would also personally purify the witchers water skins before they left for the Path come spring, to be doubly sure.

Adalwulf's sisters attended his graduation and escorted him back to Burov Mylne afterwards.

Haak Invasion of the Northern Kingdoms (1350)[]

Adalwulf went with a few witchers from his school who had been knighted in various lands and joined the Northern Front against the invasion under the Aedirnian colors, where he ran into the witcher Putnam Pitch who had firsthand knowledge of the Haaki people. The two Witchers had many talks between skirmishes one in particular about the need for new Witcher Schools, Adalwulf acknowledging Putnam's skills recommended that him starting a new school would be an excellent idea for the world whether it knew it or not needed Witchers. Adalwulf worked alongside and even taught his fellow Witcher when he had the chance, and was present at the final battle of the invasion, The Battle of Mahakam. During the battle due to the high stress of war as well as The Source's own disdain for the blatant disregard shown for life, Adalwulf was able to manifest an aspect of The Source's original domains: Death, which took the form of a cloak made of cobalt and azure flame-like energy that covered Adalwulf's form. This form while extremely efficient in terminating life was extremely taxing on the host's body He fought bravely and ferociously amidst the mixed armies saving many soldiers from different kingdoms lives, and causing the Haaki that escaped to speak in fear of the Witcher known as the 'Blue Demon of the Continent'. Adalwulf during one particularly bloody battle 'The Blue Demon' killed 56 Haaki with him going on to kill many more in other battles. An exhausted Adalwulf attended Putnam Pitch's knighting ceremony and was among the crowd applauding the Witcher's war efforts. After the invasion Adalwulf shook his new friend's hand and made the trip along with his Witchers (excluding Jalast who fell during the invasion, he was brought back in a coffin and given a funeral) back down to their keep in Vicovaro. In the end the cost for his service had been high as The Source's voice was clearer than ever in Adalwulf's mind and he had frequent prophetic visions and dreams after his return.

Second Conjunction of the Spheres (1358)[]

In 1358, The Second Conjunction of the Spheres occurred and most elves leave the World (Including Adalwulf's friends and subordinates the Elite elven Witchers Neicrubriel and Thesaall, as well as the 'new generation' elven Witcher Krianall go to ensure the safety of the Aen Seidhe in the 'New World'.) Adalwulf receives another vision of the future and makes a deal with 'The Source' for more time in exchange for his body and soul, the entity agrees with more of his body being taken by the entity in the coming centuries.

Adalwulf teams up with Putnam Pitch on a case (1360)[]

While on a field trip with a unit of apprentices in their seventh year Adalwulf would run into his friend Putnam Pitch who after explaining he was seeking new job opportunities was drawn by a contract for a Basilisk. Seeing an opportunity to have the apprentices see a trained witcher in action, he asked if him and the students could accompany him and observe, to which Putnam agreed. Tradgedy would however strike as a magical terrorist attack would happen in the capital city, fire magic rained down suddenly Adalwulf on had enough time to pull a few of the student's into the range of his Quen shield range, and four students ended up injured due to their inability to either throw up a Quen or losing concentration while using it, the witchers assessed the situation, the attack had killed several civilians and injured hundreds others. Putnam and Adalwulf would help aid the civilians to the best of their abilities which included helping them bury the dead. Adalwulf would then use the telecommunicator ritual on his medallion to contact his sister Eishe of Vicovaro about the situation requesting that she take the students to a safe place and that Oca of Toussaint be placed in charge of their training while he investigated and avenged this event. Putnam being of a similar mind would spend some time investigating the mysterious attack, during which time their friendship would grow stronger and become close.

Following the magic trail to Rowan[]

After what had happened and an arduous investigation, both witchers set out for the duchy of Rowan, following the magical trail that the magical attack had generated. This led them to Darn Rowan, where they discovered that there had been a prison riot and several political prisoners had escaped. Among them were some mages who did not agree with the imperial directives. And just like other experiences the witcher had lived through, it was more than likely that they would stage a coup d'état, which both witchers would try to stop. Because the chaos would be worse than the current order.

Not knowing which way to go, both witchers after discussing it for a while, decided that if they could find a clue as to where the criminals might be and their true objectives ( since Putnam's was only speculation ) they marched to Nilfgaard Capital, more specifically, to its "Underworld" thanks to a contact of Caldigi, one of Adalwulf's subordinates who was a former witcher of the School of the Cat.

Investigating the darkness of the City of the Golden Towers[]

Once they were in the city, thanks to the contact of the other witcher, they managed to access the underworld, the less "shiny" part of the city. Having to go to a place of clandestine fights, visited by mages, supposing that perhaps, these mages, could be the ones who had escaped and were there, trying to earn money to be able to escape from the empire to distant lands.

At the site of the clandestine fights, at first, the witchers could not get the information diplomatically, so they were forced to team up and fight for it, resulting in a somewhat costly victory, but finding out what they wanted. It was that these mages had been arrested not only for political reasons, for attempting against several important figures of the empire, but also for religious reasons, since they were worshiping a mysterious being known as Iukhuztotl, The Gate of the Cosmic Horrors, offering him blood sacrifices in Gemmeria.

Using the knowledge granted to him by The Source, Adalwulf explained to his friend, the whole situation in depth, upon learning that it was what the mages worshipped. And although Putnam was reluctant at first, he eventually joined in, remembering his encounter with Ciri many years before, and explaining it to Adalwulf. Who could never draw clear conclusions, but that perhaps the girl's request could be related to what was happening at that moment. But it was certain that the terrorist attack was another act of worship to the Cosmic Horror, with the intention of giving him enough pain to heal him so that he could invade the world. So they had to find the cultists and stop it. So without thinking twice, both witchers left the city and headed for the Nilfgaardian province.

Adalwulf attends Putnam Pitch's funeral (1555)[]

Your path is at its end. What a way to go though, a dragon! Got to say even at the moment of death you still impress me, my friend. Your path has ended, brother. May what waits you beyond the Veil, bring you peace and happiness.
―Adalwulf whispers over Putnam's body at the wake

Adalwulf heard news of his friend and fellow grandmaster Putnam Pitch's death, and of the debate between the Schools of the Griffin and the Crane over where he should be laid to rest a matter which Adalwulf mediated, leading to Putnam's funeral at Kaer Seren. Adalwulf attended Putnam's funeral afterwards he was approached by one of Putnam's adopted sons and his friend's very first pupil, Stefan "The Crane", who gave Adalwulf many books and personal diaries that had belong to Putnam, stating that though Putnam had not left a will, he knew that this is what Putnam would have wanted.

The loss of Eishe and sending Arrah off to Aretuza also weighed heavily on Ugga.

During the Second Nilfgaardian War, she would purposefully abandon her post to find and protect her siblings from the coming war, picking her sister Arrah up in Verden and using a Bloodline Tracker spell to find their brother Adalwulf, where they would gather strength in Redania before heading to Adalwulf's estate in Aedirn to wait out the war.

The older witcher Rennes took over as Grandmaster of the school, Adalwulf worked with him and the others to try to balance out the damage but was ultimately unsuccessful, the school being a former shadow of its former glory.
Remus[]

Remus was like a younger foster brother to Adalwulf, he trained in the same unit as Geralt of Rivia. Remus would die hunting what he was misinformed to be a 'Vukodlak' which actually turned out to be a Striga in Temeria

Rennes[]

Rennes was like an older foster brother to Adalwulf, he would became the School of the Wolf grandmaster following the Witcher Pogram, holding the post until his death during the witcher tournaments which took place sometime between 1210-1220.

  • *Kaer Morhen Pogrom (1170)* Adalwulf was not present during the Kaer Morhen Pogrom but heard of it during the following winter when he came back to winter with his fellow Wolves. The School's Founder and Grandmaster Barmin was lost in the attack. The older witcher Rennes took over as Grandmaster of the school, Adalwulf worked with him and the others to try to balance out the damage but was ultimately unsuccessful, the school being a former shadow of its former glory.
  • *Witcher Tournament (1210s - 1220s)* Adalwulf was not present during the Witcher Tournament due to a contract hunting a rare pair of Mula in the Amell Mountains. He had been sought out for his previous experience against the monsters. The Grandmaster at the time Rennes as well as many more Wolf School Witchers died during the events of the Tournament. Adalwulf was not pleased when he heard of Radowit's treachery, he purposely avoided and ignored contracts in and from the Kingdom of Kaedwen for a few decades as his own personal way of punishing the kingdom.
Varin, 'The Old Bastard Swordtrainer'[]

One of the fencing instructors at Kaer Morhen, due to his attitude towards recruits he was not well-liked by anyone who trained under him. Varin would die during the Witcher Pogram.

  • *Training in Kaer Morhen (1131-????)* Before undergoing his mutations, Adalwulf and the other trainees were under the care of the instructor Varin at the bastion, Varin's training was ruthless on the boys especially the youngest of the group Razan. Between lessons to improve their stamina and breathing techniques, Varin had the boys run the 'Witchers Trial' also known as 'The Killer'. The boys were drilled in fencing with meteorite steel swords, horseriding, martial techniques and monster lore. Varin had no favorites only viewing the boys as dull knives needing to be sharpened into something useful.
Veseldre Final Portrait
Veseldre[]

[Witcheress] {Unknown status, presumed dead}

Vesemir, 'The Last Grandmaster'[]

(Foster father during his time with the wolves and the school's final though informal Grandmaster) [Witcher] {Killed by the Wild Hunt in 1272}

  • *Consequences of a mage's experiments (1131)* Between the Trial of the Grasses and the Trial of the Dreams, Adalwulf was kidnapped by one of the school resident mages Anfrert Of Lod and had experiments run on him. Adalwulf was rescued by Vesemir and other veteran witchers of the School of the Wolf, Anfrert of Lod was expelled from the school after having his memories purged and Adalwulf was put back into the training program.
  • *Trial of the Forest Eyes (1135)* Adalwulf whose oddly colored eyes and strange inclination for magic made him a bit of an oddity among the trainees, so much so that additional testing was arranged for him. Coming to terms with his new enhanced senses, minus of course his sight, Adalwulf slowly but surely made his way back to the keep avoiding the monsters that came out at night in the valley of Hertch. He greeted Vesemir the next morning at the keep still blindfolded with the seal intact, thus passing the Trial.
    • Trial of the Mountains and the Circle of Elements (1141)* Adalwulf was subjected to the Trial of the Mountains to see how much of his training he took to heart. After the boys activated their medallions at the Circle their Trial was complete, the Trolls seeing they had done no harm to them let them pass. After this was over Vesemir explained that all this was done in groups, as mentors believed that even though witchers were lone hunters they could still benefit from cooperation. He was also impressed that this group didn't have to use their silver swords.

Personality[]

You are either by my side, on my side, or in my fucking way, boy! Choose wisely!
―Adalwulf "The Blue Clad Demon" to a mercenary

Characterized by his own stoic sense of grey justice and duty. Adalwulf knows life was not black and white. He always did what he felt was right for the situation.

He was often reserved but polite to strangers until given a reason not to. Affectionate, loyal and close to his friends and allies in his own way. Naïve and innocent at times. And like most Witchers dangerous if his anger was unleashed (doubly so because of his magic potential). Adalwulf has always believed that Witchers are a necessary evil and feels for his brothers no matter what school they hail from, this led him when he became a Grandmaster of the School of the Fox to enact policies not only in his school but in others to improve the conditions of the Witchering trade. Following his treatment by the School of the Fox mutagens he became more empathetic though it should be noted that even before the treatment he did not hold animosity for humans and was perfectly capable of empathizing with sentient monsters. He referred to witchers and witcheresses even from other schools as his brothers and sisters, and would call them such until they had lost his respect.

Following his vision after the news of Vesemir's death, Adalwulf became determined to forge a future for witcher-kind. The master council and the rest of the Foxes hold high regard for Adalwulf and his thoughts, though some might think him idealistic and naïve, most can come to recognize his leadership abilities and reasoning skills.

Come here, boy. I've another lesson for you.
―Adalwulf while training the New Generation
Good job, Vedalt. I'm proud of you.
―Adalwulf to Vedalt after his first successful hunt after becoming a Witcher

Adalwulf was one who believed in hard work and earned respect which translated most clearly in his mentoring methods as a witchering instructor tending to call his students simply 'Boy' or 'Girl' until he felt they earned their name committed to his memory, this moment usually stuck with his trainees who although they would recall him to be harsh but fair in his teachings, would come to value the hard work that earned them his respect and the pride they felt in hearing their name from him for the first time.

In his later life following his witcher reforms, he came to control large amounts of coin with which he was magnanimous, this generosity and kindness generally resulted in positive improvements allowing him to surround himself with loyal and good people, overtime many citizens of Burov Mylne actually moved to the town after receiving help from the old witcher, this resulted in Burov Mylne having many citizens and eventually reaching self-sufficient status.

Adalwulf and his subordinates were quite popular in the city, even when corrupt priests and mages came to defame the school they were driven out by the populace.

Trauma[]

Due to his peasant roots combined with his life as a witcher, Adalwulf has experienced much trauma throughout his life, the witcherization process is the oldest trauma he can remember but before even that he was traded off by his father as payment for a curse treatment. Mistreatment by humans due to mage propaganda negatively affected Adalwulf for a long time coupled with his Source abilities making him wary of using magic or listening to the voice that appeared when he was battle stressed, caused Adalwulf at one time to become a hermit for a period of time only doing a few contracts a year and occasionally visiting Kaer Morhen though this worked to his advantage by letting him miss some horrible events that occurred, it also left him with survivor's guilt especially after the pograms.

Religious beliefs and thoughts on Religion[]

Adalwulf, because of his education as a Witcher is an atheist. He shows respect to religious figures as long as they are not hostile to him or his friends/family. Due to that condition, he loathes organizations like the Church of the Eternal Fire, but is willing to work with them for the benefit of others, until they try to inevitably backstab or betray him.

Organized Churches[]

The Eternal Fire[]

Adalwulf loathes the Church of the Eternal Fire but is willing to work with them for the benefit of others, until treachery occurs as it usually does. He is unsurprised when the Church falls decades later.

Kreve[]

Adalwulf is respectful of the religion and they of him, the priests view Adalwulf not as an abomination but as a champion of men like they do other Witchers, the priesthood has not forgotten the reason Witchers were made nor who made them and at what cost.

The Great Sun

The Great Sun[]

Adalwulf finds the zeal of the religion of the Great Sun to be abnormal but he respects that for the most part it looks after its people. He learned more about the religion from his sister Eishe in the early 14th century.

Melitele[]

Adaluwlf has the utmost respect for the Cult of Melitele as he has been healed many times at the hands of its priestesses and was even taught Signs at one of Melitele's temples.

Prophet Lebioda[]

Adalwulf views this religion with some scrutiny, as he obviously views the prophet as an idiot for preaching at a dragon and getting eaten, but has also seen the good it has done for the general populace that practices it.

Iukhuztotl, The Gate of the Cosmic Horrors[]

Adalwulf would discover that Mimit the brother of his friend Putnam Pitch was planning to turn his friend into a vessel for the Cosmic Horror a event which would have brought back a return of the nightmarish Cosmic Horrors, luckily for the world the two witchers prevented this from taking place saving countless lives that were unaware of the tragedy they narrowly avoided.

Skills and Abilities[]

Inherited Genetic Abilities[]

Source[]

As a Source, Adalwulf is capable of channeling strong amounts of Chaos through his body, making him capable of incredible magic beyond a normal mage's level, his lack of training in the subject however limits his use of this power to the degree that mages can use theirs as his is mostly uncontrollable, his sisters have been able to teach him a few simple spells but he prefers using the Witcher signs as they feel more natural to him. In moments of heavy rage or intense emotion, his condition as a Source can flair up so Adalwulf tries to be in control of his darker emotions at all times. Adalwulf has actually attended classes at the Gweison Haul Academy along with lessons from his sisters to tap into and learn to control his Source abilities in a beneficial non-destructive way. His eyes are an indicator of his Source abilities as they glow when channeling raw Chaos.

Trained Abilities and Skills[]

Archery and Ranged Combat[]

Bowmanship[]
Adalwulf took the opportunity to learn from the archery instructors when he enlisted a batch of Elven instructors from Dol Blathanna and Nilfgaard.
Crossbowmanship[]
While it wasn't a weapon he was originally trained in, Adalwulf adapted to the use of crossbows to hunt monsters. He used his enhanced senses to make highly accurate shots like at a distance or in pitch darkness.
Throwing Weapon Proficiency[]
Adalwulf was trained in the fundamentals of throwing weapons, as such he can throw bladed objects in a manner that can be effective at a distance.
Expert Hand to Hand Combatant[]
Like other Witchers, Adalwulf learned to protect himself without his swords, able to defeat multiple armed opponents while being unarmed. His enhanced strength and knowledge of both humanoid and monster anatomy allows Adalwulf a better chance unarmed than most people, able to shatter humanoid bones and use monstrous momentum against large monsters to throw them to the ground.

Gwent[]

Adalwulf is an avid collector of Gwent cards and favors the Northern Realms deck, he collects all the decks eventually and finds the Scoia'tael deck to be the hardest to use. He likes to take part in Gwent tournaments.

Herbology[]

As a witcher, Adalwulf was trained at Kaer Morhen to be able to identify and mix herbs to use as various potions, elixirs, tonics, etc.

Horsemanship[]

As a witcher, Adalwulf has owned and raised many horses throughout his life, he has purchased trained horses as well as trained his own horses from foals.

Multilingual[]

Due to his training at Kaer Morhen and later study at various other places of learning, Adalwulf learned to speak more than just the Northern language referred to as 'Common'.

Dwarven Tongue - Dwarves' Mother Tongue, Elder Tongue, Second, Cont. old age.

Elder speech -

Nilfgaardian -

Swordsmanship[]

Like most Wolves, Adalwulf was thoroughly trained in fencing. He has learned multiple sword-fighting styles during his lifetime.

The Temerian Devil (Wolf School Style)[]

The sword style Adalwulf is well known for using, it is a heavy striking style meant to strike through with the most damage possible to a target.

The Addan Aenye, The Fiery Dancer (Cat School Style)[]

A sword style used primarily by the School of the Cat, it emphasizes swift yet more shallow cuts, more suited to hunting humans then monsters.

The Viroledan Naev'de Feaine Glaeddyv, Nine Sun Swords (Griffin School Style)[]

A sword style used primarily by the School of the Griffin, this style is meant more for handling groups of enemies rather than singular opponents.

The Crevan A'baeth Glaeddyv, Fox's Kiss Sword Style (Fox School Style)[]

Wilderness Survival Training[]

As a witcher, Adalwulf was trained at Kaer Morhen to be able to survive long or semi-permanent stints in the wilderness, due to a witcher never being guaranteed comfort He could easily start a fire, create a campsite, forage and track game for food.

Standard Witcher genetic mutations[]

Before even entering adolescence, Witchers apprentices were subjected to painful and potentially lethal mutative procedures with the goal of reshaping their bodies. The result of these mutations, when successful, were strength and speed far exceeding that of a normal human, capable of matching those creatures which preyed upon humanoids.

Sterility (-)[]

A condition which a mage during his trials tried to circumvent by doing experiments on Adalwulf, and something that Adalwulf's twin Eishe of Vicovaro hates intensely about both the Witcher trials and the process to become a sorceress, like Yennefer of Vengerburg, she is conducting research to cure these conditions.

Over developed Libido (-)[]

Despite being sterile, many witchers have a super-charged sexual libido a trait which caused many salacious rumors about the caste.

Disease Resistance (+)[]

Witchers possess a disease resistance that borders on absolute immunity. This tremendous resistance to disease (which functions in most cases as complete immunity) and a boosted immune system, allowing them to consume large quantities of potions that could prove easily deadly if consumed even in small amounts by a normal man.

Emotion Negation (+)[]

Witchers (are thought to be able to) suppress or negate emotions, allowing them to ignore emotional distractions and/or feeling from affecting their thinking-processes. They can reach states of uncaring, detached, indifferent and even catatonic.

Supernatural Condition (+)[]

Witchers possess a enhanced human condition and mind brought about by training and mutations which results in exceptionally enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, and endurance, far beyond any normal or well-trained human, that allows them to swiftly end fights with minimal effort, and perform physical feats non-witchers couldn't hope to match.

Supernatural Human Endurance (+)[]

Witchers have also been shown to shrug off hits that would normally render normal men unconscious. Additionally, they have been known to survive the strikes of powerful monsters such as giants, or other beings possessing herculean strength, that would otherwise kill others with a single blow.

Supernatural Human Senses (+)[]

A Witcher's entire sensory system has been overall enhanced, trained and refined to an inhuman degree.

Supernatural Hearing (+)[]

Witchers can hear with amazing clarity, distance, and even frequencies outside the normal range. Used with the Supirre Sign Witchers can pick up every single sound, can decipher layer upon layer of differing sounds/conversations, locate the source of noise or pick up a sound from a mile away in a busy city.

Supernatural Smell (+)[]

Witcher are trained to detect specific persons, creatures, monsters, objects, substances or even places, locate their origin, and track targets with nothing but their nose. A Witcher can identify the species of animal from the scent of their blood alone.

Supernatural Vision (+)[]

Witchers can see with amazing clarity/detail, distance, or color. Witcher possess cat-like eyes that grant very acute night-vision - witchers can constrict their pupils to see in blinding light or open them to see in near pitch darkness. This night-vision can be further enhanced with the cat potion, but in general, it is good enough by itself to not require further enhancement.

Night Vision (+)[]

Using the Cat potion, witchers eyes change to allow them to see in pitch blackness.

Supernatural Human Strength (+)[]

A Witcher's physical skills alone are sufficient to defeat most monsters single-handedly if combined with extensive training and proper weaponry, whereas regular men could only hope to accomplish this in large groups. Its generally thought that a Witcher is 2 to 3 times physically stronger than a normal man, able to cleave through cleave through monstrous flesh and bone but still capable of dying from a more skilled opponent or obviously fatal wounds like decapitation or having a lung run through by a pitchfork.

Supernatural Running/Sprinting (+)[]

Due to an extensive pre-mutation exercise program and later the mutations of the Witcher Trials, witchers are able to run faster than normal humans beyond what can be emulated via natural training and with little to no maintenance exercise.

Enhanced Stamina (+)[]

Due to an extensive pre-mutation exercise program and later the mutations of the Witcher Trials, witchers are able to summon vast quantities of stamina, far more than what a normal human could without natural training.

Fall Damage Resistance (+)[]

A Witcher is able to leap off tall structures being able to land without pain or injury from heights that would shatter the bones of most men.

Regenerative Healing Factor: Level 2 (+)[]

Witchers usually have quick(er) recovery from injuries. While not instant healing a witcher's healing time is highly unusual taking a fraction of the time to heal as well as surviving more deadly wounds possible. For example when slashed in the neck by a Striga's talons the famed Witcher Geralt of Rivia it only took him a few days to heal before he was back on The Path. Minor to moderate wounds such as small cuts, bruises, and burns usually take a few seconds to fully heal, with more severe injuries like lost limbs, internal organs, and damaged nerves and cells taking minutes or hours to heal.

Demi-Immortality (+)[]

A Witcher's cellular senescence is drastically reduced, if not completely halted. It is unknown if a witcher has semi-immortality or a life extension as no known Witcher has died of natural causes but Witchers have incredibly long lifespans and prolonged youth. While each Witcher is different, a Witcher's known life expectancy is varied as they usually died in battle. Adalwulf's life expectancy has been greatly altered through his Source blood mutating through the Trial of the Grasses as well as later in life undergoing the age arresting progress mages use.

Mutagenic mutation (+)[]

Witchers' possess the ability to receive mutagenic materials from monsters and process it into their being through Witcher decoctions. This allows a Witcher to take on traits and the improved conditions of the monster, this is a incredibly dangerous process so a Witcher can only handle one or two decoctions at a time, as a inbred safety precaution if a Witcher already has two decoctions in their system and takes a third one, the oldest decoction's effects are overwritten.

Monster & Beast Physiology (+)[]

By consuming certain Witcher concoctions, a Witcher is able to take on traits of the decoction's donor.

Extra and Additional Mutations[]

Because of the experiments he was subjected to by the school resident mage at the time Anfrert Of Lod, Adalwulf acquired certain capabilities that his original mutations did not give him.

Enhanced Hearing Sensitivity (-)[]

Adalwulf's enhanced hearing was stronger than an ordinary Witcher's, to the point that even the noise of a simple bug can get to annoy him. Adalwulf learned to tune out this ability when necessary.

Enhanced Smell (+)[]

Adalwulf's enhanced sense of smell was stronger than an ordinary Witcher's, to the point that he could smell human pheromones as well as recognize animals and monsters at a distance by scent.

Enhanced Lung Capacity (+)[]

Adalwulf had the an increased ability to hold his breath underwater for inhuman periods of time even before imbibing Killer Whale potion which allowed him to stay beneath the waves or in vacuums for long period without ill effects.

Enhanced Pressure Resistance (+)[]

Adalwulf had an increased resistance to pressure such as found in deep water, when buried, being crushed, smashed, flattened or exposed to high gravity.

Supernatural Durability/Impact Resistance (+)[]

Adalwulf had an increased almost unworldly resistance to sudden, strong impacts like the ram attack of a fiend or the punch of a giant.

Supernatural leaping (+)[]

Adalwulf is able to jump over large fences, small/medium trees, clear big holes in the ground, jump from building top to building top.

Further mutation[]

In the 14th century Adalwulf opted to undergo further mutation via the Moreau Method giving him access to stronger mutagenic abilities than your average Witcher, though only one can be active at a time. Adalwulf only has access to three, changing between them requires concentration so he cannot do it in the midst of combat.

Deadly Counter (+)[]

This mutation allows Adalwulf to overpower weakened enemies to kill them with a finishing move.

Euphoria (+)[]

This mutation turns every bit of toxicity that Adalwulf subjects his body to into power, he is able to hit harder with his swords and his signs strengthen accordingly.

Piercing Cold (+)[]

Adalwulf's preferred mutation, it empowers his Aard sign with the ability to flash freeze a target though this only occurs a quarter of the time he uses it.

Longevity (+)[]

Adalwulf, due to being a witcher, as well as later becoming a mage, was particularly long-lived, not losing his physical fitness even after many centuries. It should be noted that due to the unique combination of witcher and mage longevity techniques, Adalwulf was particularly resistant to aging, and his witcher mutations and the further experiments done to him only exacerbated this. (In the year 1271, when he had already reached 150 years old, he still looked like he was in his early to mid twenties, maybe in his early thirties if he didn't shave.) Later this condition would be augmented as he became a Protas hybrid as The Source took over his body.

Magic (+)[]

Unlike other Witchers, later in life after reuniting with his mage sisters, Adalwulf would start to learn a few spells and attend a mages academy to learn to properly control his Source abilities. Over the centuries following his magical education, Adalwulf would increase his repertoire of spells.

  • Gesture Casting: The ability to cast mystical/supernatural phenomena through hand gestures/seals/signs.
  • Incantation: The ability to use magic by using magic words from a certain language, in most cases Elder Speech.
  • Inscription Casting: The power to cast spells by using magical writing, symbols, or arrays. Adalwulf is cabpable of implementing this form of spell casting through use of Luthien's Quill to physically draw out magic formulae. He has used this many times for the improvement of Burov Mylne's structure and amenities.
    • Magecraft
      • Spells: Mage level complicated magic usually beyond the capabilities of a normal Witcher. Adalwulf is not particularly comfortable casting mage magic and only uses them when absolutely necessary, finding signs to be 'more comfortable'. Adalwulf has not currently learned any Master level spells, and such, only learned a few Novice spells. Magic done by an unskilled mage require somatic incantations, and gestures. The more skilled the mage, the less is required for the magic with the most skilled mages able to cast even the most difficult spells with a flick of the hand.
        • Novice Spells
          • Aether Based Spells
            • Magic Compass- (Learned sometime between 1308-1328) A Spirit based spell which allows the user to instantly determine the direction of a place they have already been before. Alternatively, the spell can be used to determine which direction is north.
          • Air Based Spells
            • Freshen Air- (Learned sometime between 1308-1328) An Air based air clearing spell to cleanse the air of smoke, poison or any kind of tainted air for the duration of the spell.
          • Earth Based Spells

            • Luthien's Quill- (Learned sometime between 1308-1328) A Earth based spell that allows the caster to etch writing or drawings onto any surface. Though not on living creatures. • Fire Based Spells
            • Aine Verseos- (Learned sometime between 1308-1328) A Fire based spell which creates a four meter area of bright light centered on the caster. Living Magic Conduit (+-)[]

In moments of true, extreme emotional stress or anger, Adalwulf is able to become a living conduit of an powerful otherworldy magical entity. This entity referring to itself as 'The Source' manifested itself for the first time during the Hunt for the Mula in 1202, and again during the Haak Invasion of the Northern Kingdoms in 1350. The entity has expressed interest in possessing Sources of the Ulvenson Bloodline but only Adalwulf has manifested the being so far. Adalwulf wears a Dimeritium earring to purposefully limit his connection to Chaos to prevent the being from taking over him.

Enigmatic Force (+-)[]

The being that possesses Adalwulf is mysterious, and alien to the ways of men. It sees no problem with ending human or monster lives as it sees fit. Its motivations are mostly unknown, other than possessing members of the Ulvenson bloodline for some unknown goal.

Self Physical Augmentation (+)[]

In this state Adalwulf is even stronger than usual. The angrier or more intense the emotional pain he is in, the stronger 'The Source's' power bleeds through his body, strengthening signs and physical traits.

Chaos Manipulation (+)[]

Unlike Adalwulf's extremely limited knowledge of Chaos, 'The Source' seems to know much about 'magic', able to cast spells way beyond Adalwulf's knowledge or even just casting stronger versions of the signs Adalwulf himself knows. Limitations with the connection between the being and Adalwulf however limit the strength of the Chaos, resulting in magical damage to Adalwulf's body.

Signs[]

Witchers have the ability to perform simple yet incredibly versatile simple magic in the form of signs. They also develop a sixth sense that allows them to "feel" things around them, be it items of importance or people's immediate intentions. This explains their uncanny ability to track and hunt people and monsters.

Gesture Casting[]

The ability to cast mystical/supernatural phenomena through hand gestures/seals/signs.

Air Signs[]
  • Air Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Aard, a witcher can cause a limited use bit of magical air.
    • Aard: Aard is a simple magical sign that draws from the Plane of Air or the Astral Plane (Research has so far been inconclusive about the type of Chaos particularly) that is used by witchers. The Aard sign is a simple magical sign used by witchers that directs a blast of telekinetic energy to stagger opponents, leaving them open for a subsequent attack. Aard can also blow out any existing fires, blast open poorly secured doors, or punch through cracked or damaged walls.
      • Aard Alternate Form- Sweep: Aard's alternate form turns it into a bubble of telekinetic energy that focuses around the witcher and expands outward with destructive force.
  • Cold Air Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Aard augmented with mutagens, a witcher can unleash a blast of instant freezing air.
    • Piercing Cold: When casting the Aard Sign while channeling his Source abilities, Adalwulf's Aard could potentially freeze his opponents. If an opponent was knocked down and frozen simultaneously, they tended to die immediately. Opponents who were not frozen were dealt massive damage. Adalwulf used this to great effect on his first Mula hunt.
  • Cold Air Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Vyntyr, a witcher can can unleash a blast of cold air.
    • Vyntyr is the antithesis of the Igni sign, rapidly cooling or even freezing anything the witcher touches while using the sign or in the cold wave radius. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
      • Vyntyr Alternate Form- Icy Squall: Vyntyr's alternate form shoots a sustained stream of cold air and ice, rapidly freezing whatever it hits. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
  • Aagni: The Aagni sign functioned as a combination of the Aard and Igni signs and created a burst of force-filled flame from the users' palm.
Earth Signs[]
  • Earth Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Quen, a witcher can envoke a bit of the magical properties of Earth.
    • Quen: The Quen sign is a simple magical sign used by witchers that draws from the Plane of Earh to form a protective field around the caster. Quen's basic ability is to cover a witcher in a basic shield that absorbs a limited amount of damage.
      • Quen Alternate Form- Active Shield: Quen's alternate form creates a bubble of protective energy to form around the witcher it is stronger than the original form but is more draining on the witcher and requires them to remain in place.
    • Vorg is similar to the Quen spell but is more specialized as it creates a barrier that the witcher can walk away from. Useful for blocking narrow passages or creating choke points to deal with group combat easier. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
      • Vorg Alternate Form- Boundary: Vorg's alternate form forms a glowing line or boundary where the witcher points after casting the hand sign then tracing the line, the boundary has an effect like Aard that telekinetic throws anything that comes into contact with it that the witcher deems hostile. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
Fire Signs[]
  • Fire Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Igni, a witcher can cause a limited use bit of magical fire.
    • Igni: The Igni sign is a simple magical signs that draws from the Plane of Fire that is used by witchers and causes a burst of fire that can repel and ignite opponents, as well as start fires.
      • Igni Alternate Form- Firestream: Igni's alternate form turns the burst of fire into a sustained stream of sparks and flames.
  • Lightning Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Volun, a witcher can cause a limited use bit of magic plasma.
    • Volun is used to shoot bolts of plasma/lightning from the witcher's fingertips, it is an effective scare tactic tool when dealing with peasant mobs. And is an effective weapon against armored enemies. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
      • Volun Alternate Form- Chain Lightning: Volun's alternate form is able to shoot a sustained bolt of lightning controlled by the witcher that can jump from enemy to enemy, the more skilled the witcher the more targets it can hit. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
Spirit Element Signs[]
  • Aether Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Yrden, a witcher can envoke a bit of the magical properties of Aether.
    • Hatri (Hate-reflecting sign): Hatri is a telempathic sign which reflects the opponent's hate, bloodlust and hunger back to its source, making the monster afraid.
    • Heliotrope: Heliotrop or Heliotrope is a magical sign used by witchers. It is made by crossing one's wrists, as well as interlocking ones pinkies and works as a buffer against physical attacks, combat magic and impacts with walls, ground etc. Contrary to Quen, which is active until broken or dispelled, the Heliotrop is active only for a moment and cushions from a single powerful attack or damage.
    • Shadi is used to temporarily turn its caster intangible, the user can specify whether they fall through the ground as well, allowing for better mobility and the ability to avoid being trapped or barricaded against ones will. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
      • Shadi Alternate Form- Invisibility: Shadi's alternate form is able to cloak a witcher in a field of light refractive magic rendering the witcher temporary invisbile to human sight. It does not negate scent, sound, or any of the other senses. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
    • Somne is a simple magical sign used by witchers. It is used to put the target to sleep, and may possibly also leave them open to some form of suggestion.
    • Yrden: The Yrden sign is a simple magical sign used by witchers that draws from the Astral Plane to form a circular, magical trap. The trap triggers a certain number of times when traversed by a foe, causing knock back, damage, and a chance of inflicting ailments on its targets Most foes that wander into the ring are significantly slowed, though some monsters are unaffected by it. Yrden is one of the witchers best tools for controlling multiple enemies in melee range. It's also particularly valuable for witchers when up against noonwraiths and nightwraiths, who remain incorporeal most of the time unless caught within a Yrden circle.
      • Yrden Alternate Form- Magic Trap: Yrden's alternate form creates a stationary glyph of magical energy that strikes at and slows down hostile forces within a certain radius, as well as destroys and projectiles that happen to pass through that radius. Multiple Magic Traps can be placed down at once by experienced witchers.
Water Signs[]
  • Water Manipulation (Limited): Using the Sign of Axii, a witcher can envoke a bit of the magical properties of Water.
    • Axii: The Axii sign is a simple magical sign used by witchers that draws power from the Plane of Water that can charm an opponent's mind to stun them, temporarily eliminating them from combat. However, the stun effect disappears after seven seconds or when the target receives harmed. This sign can be used by witchers to calm their mounts or on people to gain information or benefits. This sign can usually only affect one person at a time and its effects are visible to other people in the vicinity. Uses: Brainwashing/Compulsion
      • Axii Alternate Form- Puppet: Axii's alternate sign forces an enemy to temporarily become an ally and fight on your side during a conflict for a short time as well as boosting their physical abilities for the duration of the conversion. Uses: Mind Domination
    • Moahk is capable of magically creating water, or shooting a wave of water at a target. A good preparation sign to use before Volun. Witchers can use this sign in survival scenarios like in the desert to conjure water. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.
      • Moahk Alternate Form- Torrent: Moahk's alternate form blasts a forceful torrent of water from the witcher's hand, the pressure can be adjusted by focusing more magic through the Sign. It can be used as a peasant mob deterrant, to put out fires or with enough skill and magic poured into it to cut through objects. Adalwulf learned this sign in 1301 from Witchers of the School of the Griffin.

Oh, and if by any chance, you are someone who works at CD Projekt Red. I would love it if you could canonize him. It would make me very happy.

Biography[]

Adalwulf of Aedirn ( Real name: Adalwulf Ulvenson), or simply Adalwulf was a well-known mage of the Continent especially the Northern Kingdoms.

He was an active mage before and following the Second Conjunction of Spheres.

History[]

Early life (1121-1131)[]

Born to a seemingly normal Aedirnian peasant couple named Ralluald Ulvenson and his wife Ugga in the village of Hoarton, he was one of three children out of seven which turned out to be Sources, Adalwulf himself, his twin sister Eishe and their younger sister Arrah, his sisters. Born as the fifth child just after his older twin Eishe by a minute, six days after the start of the Imbolc Season Savaed and the holiday of Imbaelk. Adalwulf was the second born son of a simple soldier turned peasant Ralluald Ulvenson, he was given a lucky token which he wore on his neck from his parents in hopes that he would grow up strong and brave. For the most part, Adalwulf's childhood was fairly normal until at the age of 4 when his father contracted a curse by a Mage and suffered a major psychosis. Ralluald became violent, irrational, and depressive.

In his desperation, Ralluald reached out to the mages of Aedirn through his former military connection, they sent the mage Aigon Of Kalkar to cure Ralluald at a price to be determined by Aigon.

When the arrived he determined, the best way to treat Ralluad and noticed a spark of magical potential in the twins, Adalwulf and Eishe, he promised to treat Ralluald's curse if Adalwulf would be taken to train at Ban Ard and Eishe at Aretuza when they turned ten years old.

Treatment was given in the form of a ritual and Ralluald was told to follow the ritual instructions exactly and to never forget to do it every few days. Adalwulf and his sister Eishe were favorites of the local Wise women who they would do light chores for, they were given black magic dolls and told that they would help keep them safe. Four years later, Aigon Of Kalkar came to take Adalwulf to Ban Ard and Eishe to Aretuza, Ugga, of course, was against this, Ralluald having not told her anything until the mage came for the twins, in the end Adalwulf' and Eishe were led away holding hands.

The beginning of his training at Ban Ar (1131)[]

Upon his arrival at the Kaedweni city he was put with the other mage novices at the time, Adalwulf was allowed to keep certain items of his past like his doll and lucky token as they were viewed as negligible towards interference with his magical training.
  • Work-In-Progress*

Before undergoing his mutations and implants, Adalwulf and the other trainees were under the care of the instructor Varin at the keep's bastion for a year preparing their bodies for the changes to come, Varin's training was ruthless on the boys especially the youngest of the group Razan. Adalwulf also befriended Abbas who was made fun of by the other boys for his taupe-colored skin as well as his strange foreign language and accent. The boys were drilled in fencing with meteorite steel swords, horseback riding, martial techniques, and monster lore. Varin had no favorites only viewing the boys as dull knives needing to be sharpened into something useful.

Biography[]

Adalwulf of Aedirn ( Real name: Adalwulf Ulvenson), or simply Adalwulf was a witcher/mage hybrid of the Continent, unlike his other alternative selves his early exposure to The Source and magic would lead him down a darker path.

He was an active Witcher before and following the Second Conjunction of Spheres. He would survive many events that would decimated the School of the Wolf's numbers and was among the oldest known still living Witchers from the school, though he is still younger than Vesemir.

In the latter part of the 13th century, Adalwulf would be knighted by the King of Aedirn thus he was granted land in the region that provides him shelter and a bit of income.|}

Ralluald became violent, irrational, and depressive.

In his desperation, Ralluald privately promised his eldest son Daskel to a Witcher of the School of the Wolf in exchange for a cure from the madness and pain, the Witcher instead later chose the younger Adalwulf saying he felt a tug of destiny from the boy. So desperate was Ralluald that he agreed without even telling his wife or the rest of his family.

The beginning of his training in Kaer Morhen (1131)[]

Upon his arrival at the mountain keep he was put with the other Witcher novices at the time, Adalwulf was allowed to keep certain items of his past like his doll and lucky token as they were viewed as negligible towards interference with his witcher training. Like most potential Witcher apprentice groups, Adalwulf was placed with a large group of other boys who were viewed and trained as a unit.

Before undergoing his mutations and implants, Adalwulf and the other trainees were under the care of the instructor Varin at the keep's bastion for a year preparing their bodies for the changes to come, Varin's training was ruthless on the boys especially the youngest of the group Razan.
